Original Photo
Almost every good photo can be converted into a cross stitch design. The emphasis is on “almost,” though. The picture needs to have good contrast and colors, and there is likely some retouching required.
Here is a good example of a child/baby photo, converted to cross stitch, with two different designs. The choice is yours!
If you want to remember your wedding day for the rest of your life, why not make an artwork out of something unusual that connects you both.
In this case, a customer used a VW Kombi as their wedding car - and why not. A photo may fade over the years, but a cross stitch artwork will remain a precious reminder forever.
Shadow the German Shepherd
I converted the picture of my German Shepherd into a cross stitch pattern (see left).
As part of the service, I will remove ugly backgrounds and improve the photos before a conversion.
The quality of the cross stitch pattern will always surpass automatic conversions.
There are several free online conversion services available. They are automated processes and are only good for images with clean lines, such as cartoons.
My conversions involve the following steps:
- Improving the quality of the photo
- Retouching, removing blemishes, replacing the background - where required
- Converting the photo into a cross stitch using a dedicated computer program.
- Cleaning up the conversion: replacing wrong or odd color choices, deleting stray colors, and more.
Below is the result of a free online conversion. Apart from being blurred, the program made some odd color choices, e.g. the purple at the edge of the shadow and in the trees.
